Healthier kids. Healthier future.

Community Medicine approach to basic and specialized regional care for children and adolescents

Ensuring high-quality pediatric care through innovative health services research

What does CoMed mean?

The entire Community Medicine-pipeline from epidemiological basic research to health services and prevention research in real life settings can be realized. The site manages several epidemiological and clinical cohorts.

Together with regional network structures of healthcare providers, innovative healthcare and prevention models will be developed, implemented and evaluated. These elements will play a key role in future pediatric healthcare in Germany and abroad.

Strategy

Interdisciplinary research on physical and mental health of children and adolescents is needed to promote health for the entire life cycle through early preventive and therapeutic measures.

Community medicine approaches address the specifics of populations and health care systems to ensure optimal patient- and family-centered implementation of health care improvements.

Holistic health care of children and adolescents is of utmost importance in scarcely populated regions characterized by a limited access to general and specialized paediatric medical care.

The Rostock/Greifswald site has a population-based, community-based medical research approach that has the potential to bring togeheter cohort studies, the develpment of innovative care, models using telemedicine and eHealth, prevention, tranistion and health service research

Structure

In the sparsely populated Federal State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Greifswald and Rostock University Medicical CenterĀ  play an important role both in high-end and basic pediatric medicine. The research focus of the site is Community Medicine. To complete this perspective, the Pediatric Clinics, the Dept. of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Institutes of Community Medicine and Psychology (both Greifswald) form an interdisciplinary consortium.
